Receptionist and Hunt Lease Program Coordinator

Tell us about yourself.

I am a Colorado native and spent most of my “growing up years” in Steamboat Springs, CO. I went to college in Rangely, CO, and majored in Dental Hygiene. The last 10 years I have had one or both feet in the world of insurance. I have 2 grown children, one in PA and one in HI, with 5 grandchildren between the 2 families. My husband, Roger, and I will celebrate 49 years of marriage in August.

What’s your first memory of the outdoors?

Probably my first memory of an outdoor activity, besides feeding the chickens and cows, is picking asparagus along the ditches with my mom and sisters. My first camping trip was when I was 3 and I remember it rained most of the time we were there!

What outdoor activities do you participate in today? What’s your favorite?

Most of our outdoor activity now consists of hiking. I like to walk the trails near our home which usually have some wildlife (waterfowl, fox and coyote) to see.

Any other interesting hobbies not necessarily related to outdoors?

I love to knit, crotchet and work on projects with my grandkids when they are around. I recently got my instructor certification for teaching water aerobics – my favorite form of regular exercise.

How long have you been at OIG?

I have worked at OIG since 2009.

What do you like about your job?

I enjoy the team I work with — a great group of people who are all dedicated to doing a good job but also know how to have a good laugh!

What makes you good at your job?

I am a detail oriented person and enjoy being helpful, whether to other employees or customers.

What advice would you give to clients about the importance of insurance?

In today’s world, you can’t afford NOT to have insurance.

Why should outdoor activities businesses come to OIG?

I feel that the staff and ownership of this company all have a good understanding and a love of outdoor activities and are very knowledgeable about what different businesses insurance needs might be. One type policy doesn’t fit all insurance needs.

Protect Against Cyber Security Threats with Complete Outdoor Recreation Insurance and Outdoor Adventure Insurance Strategies.

Outdoor Recreation Insurance and Outdoor Adventure Insurance clients could, like any other business, fall prey to cyber security threats.

OIG insurance specialists are prepared to help you tackle Cyber Security. Cyber security threats are growing exponentially. Every day, more viruses are being launched than ever before. The estimated annual cost for cyber crime globally is nearly 100 billion dollars. Hackers are not only targeting corporations, but small businesses and individuals must also be vigilant in protecting against threats. Anyone with an internet connection runs the risk of a cyber attack.

Here are a few reasons you should carry Cyber Liability Insurance:

  • It’s more affordable than you may think — premiums can be as low as $500 dollars.
  • It can cover business interruption liabilities as an additional benefit.
  • Even if you don’t host your data yourself, you are still responsible. If your data is hosted or stored in the Cloud, take a look at your contracts to determine if you are still legally responsible.
  • Your general policy won’t cover you in the case of cyber threats. General Liability does not cover anything aside from 3rd party injury.
  • Cyber coverage can also cover laptops & mobile devices.

Protect yourself. Talk to your OIG specialist today.

OIG specialists in Outdoor Recreation Insurance and Outdoor Adventure Insurance Stress Importance of Flood Insurance

Spring flooding is a real possibility for all businesses.  Are you confident that your outdoor recreation insurance policy fully protects you against damages and loss of income?

According to FEMA, floods, including inland flooding, flash floods and seasonal storms, occur in every region of the United States and 90 percent of all natural disasters in the U.S. involve some type of flooding. Even if you do not live in a high-risk area, it’s worth looking into flood insurance as more than 20 percent of all flood insurance claims are filed in low-to-moderate flood-risk areas.

Flood insurance is easy to purchase and it’s affordable.  These policies can be purchased directly from OIG.  Let us assess your flood risk and determine the appropriate level of coverage that will protect you from flooding disasters. Without insurance, relief from floods primarily comes in the form of loans which can be expensive in the long run. The proper flood insurance policy is the only way to protect yourself fully from the cost of flooding.

Outdoor Insurance Group’s Hunting Guide Insurance Experts Make Children’s Safety A Priority

With winter vacations nearing, more families may take to the outdoors to participate in hunting activities with children. The safest way to hunt as a family is with a professional guide. Guides are experience in child safety, take proper precautions to avoid shooting accidents, and have the appropriate levels of hunting insurance to protect from damages. For hunters of any age, it’s imperative to prevent easy access to firearms and start by learning from educated professionals.

Hunting insurance experts encourage young people to begin by developing safe habits. Professional guides can instruct them, and more importantly, set a good example as role models who adhere to safe hunting skills. Five safety measures that a hunting guide practices include:

  • Making sure every member of the group wears hunter orange and being aware of their position at all times.
  • Checking that firearms are clean, free of obstructions and in good working order.
  • Keeping guns unloaded when transporting them to and from the hunting area.
  • Watching where all guns are pointed and steering clear of the trigger until it’s time to shoot.
  • Unloading before dressing the catch.

Keeping children safe is a priority for all of us. Hiring a guide can help reduce the risk of accidents, keep the focus on the hunt, and ensure that a good time is had by all.

Outdoor Recreation Insurance Companies Like OIG Thrive on Testimonials

Outdoor recreation insurance also known as outdoor adventure insurance is a specialty insurance that should only be purchased by a specialty insurance group.  Smaller companies like Outdoor Insurance Group are more inclined to focus on each client’s individual business insurance requirements and formulate a plan just for them.

The best option is working with a provider like OIG, which is staffed by sportsmen and sportswomen who are experienced in and passionate about each sporting group that is covered.  Their personal expertise lies in each of the following:  fishing and hunting guides and lodges, sport shooting and gun ranges, horseback riding and dude ranches, ATV and jeep tours, campgrounds, snowmobile tours, paddleboard and surf rentals and schools, and more.

When selecting an insurance company, outdoor adventure businesses can either ask around for a reputable firm or research online, going straight to the customers themselves by reviewing the testimonial pages of their websites.  Oigcorp.com gives detailed information about services and invites prospective clients to call for a free consultation, which is also an important part of selecting a provider, but, testimonial pages offer real proof of a positive customer experience.

Here are just a few examples of testimonials you will find on the OIG website:

For the past fifteen years I have had to buy insurance for my Outfitting Company, and for the past fifteen years, no insurance company knew how to insure my company. I would instruct them on what I needed and they never had a clue as to how to put it on paper and get it past underwriting, so we were always in a sense “underinsured” that is until I heard from The Outdoor Insurance Group. Our agent is a hunting guide so he knew exactly what we needed and how to design it. Our agent is very competitive on his pricing and he actually designed a policy to fit my company’s needs. Unlike all the other cookie cutter insurance policies I have had throughout the years. I know now that my Company is in good hands with our agent.
Caryn Moss, MossBack Guides and Outfitters

Our agent is very professional in his work and driven to give you the best service he can. Being an avid outdoorsman himself his knowledge of policies go hand and hand with his knowledge of hunting and fishing at the commercial/ outfitting level. Outdoor insurance group has great people, great pricing, and great service. I am glad to have Beaus Outdoors LLC outfitting business insured through the outdoor insurance group!  Beau J Davis, www.beausoutdoors.com
