Hunting Guide Insurance Specialists at Outdoor Insurance Group Share American Hunter’s Fall Turkey Hunting Tips

Hunting Guide Insurance experts at Outdoor Insurance Group are all hunters at heart. As active participants in the sport, we understand the intricacies of insuring hunting guides and know the exact type and amount of insurance they need to protect their businesses.

Fall is one of the best times to hunt. We found these great turkey hunting tips at americanhunter.org and thank Doug Howlett for sharing. For the complete article visit https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2011/11/16/five-fall-turkey-hunting-tips.

1. Forget the Break

Properly busting the birds can be a challenge for some hunters, particularly older hunters or hunters without a good turkey dog. You basically have to run at the flock or fire your gun near them to spook them toward different directions. If they all run or fly off together, there will be no need for them to call to get back together and you’ll have to attempt to break them again.

2. Match the Call

When working fall birds your direction—particularly hens or young birds—the idea is to create a frantic sense of urgency to be together. To do this, whether after a break or simply working an entire flock your way, call plaintively until a bird responds.

3. Be Early

Since wild turkeys hit the ground at sunup and roam about for the balance of the day before roosting just prior to dusk, many fall hunters don’t worry too much if they aren’t in position until well after sunrise. This can be a big mistake unless you are certain where a flock will be loafing and feeding after flydown.

4. Get Wet

Like humans, turkeys hate the rain. But unlike humans, they have nowhere to go to get out of it. Hit the open areas during or just after a heavy rain and you’ll be in position to score quickly and easily.

5. Cluck for Toms

When you happen upon a band of toms you’ll almost always need to break them up in order to call them back in. Take your time setting up on the break and instead of a lot of hen yelping and cutting, go with deep-pitched clucks—just one or two—every four to five minutes or deep, slow jake yelps.

Hunting Guide Insurance Experts at Outdoor Insurance Group Share Risk Management Advice From The SBA

For managing business risks, Outdoor Insurance Group provides hunting guide insurance for a range of outfits including plans that cover the use of tree stands, ATVs, boats, and horses.

The Small Business Administration recommends adopting a variety of risk management strategies to avert catastrophe and provide you with the best possible protection.

BarbaraWeltman, SBA Guest Blogger, discusses choice of entity, contracts and agreements, disaster preparedness, best business practices, and most importantly, business insurance plans at https://www.sba.gov/blogs/5-best-risk-management-strategies?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery.

Here’s what she says about the importance of insurance. “Carrying adequate insurance coverage can go a long way in protecting you from property losses as well as liability claims. Consider the following types of policies for optimum protection”:

  • Business owners policy (BOP). This policy for small businesses provides protection for your property (except for excluded events and amounts over the policy limit) as well as liability protection for claims by third parties (e.g., a customer slips and falls on your premises). The policy may also cover employee theft and other occurrences.
  • Professional liability coverage. This policy protects professionals from client claims of mistakes (malpractice), negligence, or unfinished work.
  • Business interruption policy. This policy provides funds to cover your fixed costs (and possibly loss of profits) following an event that shuts you down (e.g., a hurricane).
  • Workers’ compensation insurance. This protects the business for claims when employees have a job-related injury or illness.
  • Employer practices liability insurance (EPLI). This covers you for claims by employees and former employees for such actions as discrimination and wrongful termination.

Hunting insurance expertise coupled with intimate knowledge of all hunting activities enable Outdoor Insurance Group to design individual plans for each customer, taking into account their unique business needs and potential for risk. If you’re a hunting guide looking to purchase, renew, or update a hunting insurance plan we invite you to call today for a free consultation (888) 683-7808.  Our goal is to get you the most out of your insurance policy with the most cost effective plan.

Hunting Guide Insurance Customers at Outdoor Insurance Group Guard Against Risks with a Good Hunting Guide Insurance Plan

At OIG, our hunting guide insurance provides personalized plans for hunting guide insurance to cover outfits from all hunting-related risks and accidents.

Accidents can and do happen. Outdoor Insurance Group cautions against five of the top risks that can lead to dire consequences and temporarily or permanently shut down your business. Be mindful of these risks to keep your hunters safe.

Shooting accidents

Shooting accidents can be avoided with a policy of clear communications between hunting party members, the use of bright clothing, and clear and proper instruction of safe gun handling for your hunters.

Physical condition awareness

It is important to know the limits of all of your patrons before embarking on a hunting adventure so you can tailor your hunt accordingly and prepare for every eventuality.

Tree stands

Proper and checked equipment, attention to detail, and common sense are all key when using a tree stand.

ATV and boating accidents

Take care and adhere to safety rules when operating any transportation vehicles.

Animal attacks and insect bites

When out in the wild, always respect wildlife around you.

Be mindful of all of these risks. Take precautions to keep your hunters safe and ensure a bright future for your business. With a solid hunting guide insurance plan, you can focus on what you do best, treat your hunters to good times all season long — and keep them coming back.
